Mrs. Lyon's Teaching philosophy
To teach is to create a space in which the community of learners bring their own gifts and talents to teach each other. Structure is created by the teacher, students, school, district, and surrounding community which enables the community of learners to work together towards common goals. All subjects are a thread creating interdisciplinary subject matter to study, each subject is dependent on one another. A teacher intentionally uses words, materials, and methods most effective for the community of learners. Art provides the unique opportunity for students to apply their knowledge and have it look back at them. This leads to curiosity about the self, awakening curiosity about the world. The apex of education is a life-long learner constantly asking questions and seeking understanding.
The link above for the Art Machine represents Mrs. Lyon collaboration with the Art Machine teachers, Brad Asay, Chris Fasy , and Jason Fuller to create vertical alignment between the middle schools and high schools in the Ogden School District. She has also been working on creating vertical alignment with the surrounding colleges along the Wasatch Front. Mrs. Lyon recently spoke with students at BYU about the film program at BLHS.
